Practice Areas
Civil Litigation
Civil litigation is the process in which civil matters are resolved in a court of law. Civil matters can be described as situations dealing with relationships between people, such as a marriage, or a contract dispute between corporations.
Labor and Employment Law
Labor law has traditionally encompassed the relationships among unions, employers, and employees. Labor laws grant employees in certain sectors the right to unionize and allow employers and employees to engage in certain workplace-related activities (for example, strikes and lockouts) in order to further their demands for changes in the employer-employee relationship.
Employment Law
Employment law, on the other hand, is defined more broadly as the negotiated relationships between employers and employees. Although employment lawyers deal with many of the same parties as labor lawyers (i.e., workers and companies), they conventionally address issues that fall outside the framework of union-management relations and collective bargaining. As a result, the extent to which statutes or regulations pertain to unions and union-workers usually determines whether or not they are regarded as components of “labor law” or “employment law.”
Personal Injury Law
Personal injury law refers to the legal remedies and defenses involved in civil lawsuits brought as a result of wrongful conduct. Most personal injury cases are based on the doctrine of negligence. In essence, negligence requires every member of society to act responsibly and avoid putting others at risk.
Estate Planning & Succession Law
The practice area of estate planning law involves the drafting of living wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other documents to facilitate the transfer and management of property after death. When estates aren’t managed and someone dies without a will, their possessions will distributed to their next of kin.
Succession Law
Succession regulates what happens to a person’s property when they die. It is one area of law which will almost certainly affect us all. Rules of succession are found in the earliest records of law in Scotland, and in many cases it is surprisingly easy to trace the current rules back to those in place as long ago as the 14th century. In general, the same principle has always underpinned the system: to distribute the deceased’s property in the way he would have wanted. The law of succession usually aims to give effect to the deceased’s wishes.
Education Law
Education Law is the area of law that relates to schools, teachers, and the rights of Americans to a public education, as well as standards for those students who attend private schools. American laws mandate that every child be given the opportunity for an education.
Public Finance Law
Public finance law refers to legislation and regulations relating to the financial activities of government or public sector organizations. Public finance laws govern the funding and adminstatration of specific governmental activities including the sale and purchase of various types of bonds.
Business / Corporation Law
Business / Corporation law encompasses all of the laws that dictate how to form and run a business. This includes all of the laws that govern how to start, buy, manage and close or sell any type of business. Business laws establish the rules that all businesses should follow.
Transactional Law
Transactional lawyers counsel individuals and organizations on the legal issues generated by their business dealings.
